Why RuPaul is Better

This is why I prefer RuPaul's Drag Race over ANTM. The girls on ANTM are freakishly skinny. Some of them, I admit, are beautiful girls who look like they're meant to be thin. But many, if not MOST, look unhealthy and disturbing. Their hair is limp and thin, they complain that they need to lose weight and if they DON'T then some designer tells them they need to in order to be able to fit into the unreasonable dresses.

And besides just promoting unhealthy, unreasonable standards of femininity the girls all dress like they're about twelve. They stand hunched, toes in and wear childish clothing and accessories. Sometimes it's extremely creepy.

RuPaul's Drag ladies, on the other hand, aspire to have the curves of REAL WOMEN. Admittedly, some of them are thin as well, but they pad themselves up when it's time to perform. The drag queens know that women have hips and breasts and ass and DAMN do they flaunt it!

Okay. So maybe there are some other reasons I prefer the drag race. But seriously, I can admire the thick muscled thighs of the skilled drag performers far better than the cringe-worthy chicken legs of the top modelers. I'd take a queen home anyday!

Anyway. This wasn't meant to be todays comic, it's just another STROKE OF GENIUS of mine. Okay, really, it's cuz I'm sick and this was easier and more pleasurable than a 3 panel, word bubbled, multi-character comic. And I know what you're all thinking, yes I feel like I was JUST SICK but trust me, I don't like it anymore than you all.

I'm still planning to keep up with the comic, since I'm not deathly ill. Now to rearrange my schedule since I forced this bitchy little stop upon you all...
And if you really love me you'll donate money for me to get this long-wanted corset. It's not on my wishlist cuz I need to special order it in a large and more pricey size to have curves like RuPaul. :P

RuPaul rules the world, or at least she should! I'll admit for being a bit of a sucker for ANTM though... I don't know why though to be honest. Probably because I find the ins and outs of modeling interesting, despite having little interest in most of the people who do it. Drag Race is annoying me this season though, seems like all the queens are bitches (bitchy queens piss me off anyways but that's a whole other thing.

I have to say, modern models don't hold a candle to some women in drag. I love a good drag queen.

I dont understand designers, if want their clothing on models so thin they look like walking hangers, why not save themselves some money and just use hangers?

I love me a good drag queen, I just recently got to style one of my friends for a drag shoot, and most of my friends thought that was actually me (aside form obvious face shots)

ANTM really is a guilty pleasure for me (the girls at work started me on it) but that's why I'm able to make the comparisons.

Aspiring drag queen here, and I have to agree with this assessment. :) I want my women to have CURVES~ and I wish I had them myself while trying to fill out an outfit!

Haha, what an amusing and witty use of hyperbole to display the difference between two groups of people.

*Actually looks up real life pictures of these two groups*

... Holy crap. This isn't hyperbole. Each side ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE THAT, don't they?

Sign me up for the drag queens too, won't you? ;)

Hahaha Dirkson your comment had me laughing aloud!

But quit it, it makes my throat hurt worse. ;)

Someday maybe I too can have curves like a real woman until then I'll stick with my jeans and hoodies to avoid being compared to ANTM. ;) *know that I jest because I care*

Trust me, lady, you do not have scary toothpick thighs. *shudder*

I, too, love to watch ANTM as a guilty pleasure but that being said their idea of "plus size" is ridiculous. The girl who won that one season (the "plus size" blonde whose name I can't remember) was a freaking size 12?! That's average! I'm a size 16 and that's still considered tiny among my circle of friends.

I can't say that I prefer drag queens over skinnie women, but I do think that a woman should have a lovely shape and curves in all the right places. Muscular thighs and shapely calves will always catch my eye.

Why do drag queens get to look like real women, and real women have to look like adolescent boys? It's not fair at all.

Nic said...

Too true, Jules! I'm all for gender-swapping but if it becomes a societal norm then I must rebel!!!

Reminds me of something I once saw a couple years ago. I was eating at a TGI Fridays, and saw a girl who was so thin that I swear I saw the backs of her femurs where her butt was supposed to be. I was half-tempted to take my burger and fries, run up to her with them, and say "Here, take these! It's clear you need them more than I do!"

If only it were as simple as that. Sadly, the real root of the problem has dug far deeper into the psyches of the girls themselves, and those that watch them. Kind of tragic, really.

I watched RuPaul's for the first time today and I just have to say the girls seem extremely catty to me.
Maybe it's just cause I'm so tomboy-ish I've started wearing men's tops exclusively, or that I live in a small rich town, but I honestly can't deal with catty, fashion-obsessed reality shows in any form.
I do agree with you though. I've done a good deal of papers on body image and the current stereotype for women. Did you know that Barbie's body is (proportionally) unable to obtain without mass amounts of plastic surgery? Now you do. And knowing is half the battle.
Also, I have two really close friends with eating disorders and the crap people go through is amazing- it's actually a form of OCD.

Hello,
My name is Gia. I learned of your site from Princess on HypnotizeMe. I've been involved in the lifestyle for a few years and have recently considered going pro. I was wondering if you have any advice or pointers you'd be willing to share? I'd love to talk with you sometime.
Thank you!

Nic said...

Gia, that's tough because there's alot to know. The very basics, I would say, would be to know your tools, don't try things you haven't tried on yourself first and be very clear about all of the dangers of any toy and play. Know where not to hit and where not to use certain devices. Pay close attention to your bottom and always be respectful of their limits and safewords. Always play safe, sane and consensual.

I love that corset you linked to. My sister-in-law showed me pictures of it a few months ago and I fell in love with it then. She was thinking about using a similar idea for a steam punk outfit she's making. I really hope you are able to get it.

Nic said...

Yes, Tina, I've wanted it FOREVER! It's hard to find (especially in my size) but I was able to get them to agree to make me a custom larger size for a fee. :)

Please don't use any version of the phrase "real women have curves". It sucks in almost any context. All you need to do to be a real woman is to identify as one. That's it. C'mon, feminism 101 is we don't snark on ANY woman's body.

Otherwise, this comic is ace. I'm going through it ALL.

Has no one noticed that all of these “women” on America’s Next Top Model and all of those other shows have features that are primarily masculine? They are excessively tall, extremely thin, square jawed, with no hips and breasts. Isn’t that… a man?! Ru Paul’s “ladies” are much more feminine than the average model. It always makes me laugh to see Vogue models because these rib-baring women are called sexy and desirable yet they look EXACTLY like the men and women we are trying to feed in Africa!

I thought nicole was HOT - the redhead that won a while ago who was short. But to each their own, I personally am not attracted to big boobs/ass. Thin girls get shit for being thin even if they don't have eating disorders and big girls get shit for being big, even if they eat healthy and exercise/are fine besides that... or even if they do have some kind of not noticeable eating disorder. Everyone gets shit. Models are there to be coat hangers, that's their purpose. Designers want people to focus on the clothes and how the model is wearing them not be distracted by other bits :P. "Feminine" is also not a good selling point, lol.

Thank you anonymous! I am so sick of people (especially my mother) saying that real women have curves. Well guess what, no matter what size your boobs are, or how many curves you have or how much cosmetic surgery you've had, if you are female (psychologically or physically) and post-puberty, you are a real woman.

All women have curves to some degree, even if they're thin. If they have small breasts they will still have hips that curve. Curves are feminine.

However, looking skeletal for the sake of wearing a dress is just idiotic. Take care of your bodies!

I don't think you've ever really watched ANTM. Tyra has let girls go simply for being too thin and portraying an unhealthy image. A LOT of times she's done this. That show has never had a freakishly thin winner (besides that really tall, weird girl Ann).
That is the only time EVER that I was disappointed with the judges.
I mean, yeah there have been arguments on the panel that the fashion industry will 'never adapt for plus size girls' or even 'normal' size 6-8s.

I LOVE your comic and I'm generally 100% with you on all your opinions so far, but you are actually incorrect with this one.
I mean, if you ever watched most of the seasons, you'll see the girls arent really unhealthy looking at all. They're just super tall and thin.
Runway models are like that.
Hopefully one day it will change, but Tyra Banks has stated zillions of times that she is wanting to change (or modify, cause I think thin girls need just as much love as fat girls and everything in between) the industry one step at a time.
It takes a while.

And Drag Race is MEN lol. They aren't gonna look like skinny supermodels anyway usually cause men are just built differently. It's kind of a silly comparison, you know?

I will definitely continue to read your comic though. But I would suggest (this isn't me being rude or anything just so you know :) ) that you have more knowledge on the shows and their creators before you say they're giving bad views on body image.

xoxo

I forgot to add, I LOVE drag race too. Both shows I like, so this wasn't me being biased or anything.
